WBFF Pro Tommy Andrades

What mistakes did you make as a newbie?

Overtraining and bad eating habits. The biggest that I ran into was overtraining, and not giving myself time to fully rest and recover.

Genetics-wise which category would you be in would you say you’re an Ectomorph, Mesomorph, or Endomorph?... and what are the pros and cons?

I believe I’m a hybrid of Ecto/Mesomorph. I have a natural athletic body but my gains are slow because I have such a fast metabolism. Advantage would be my gains come in strong, defined and hard. Disadvantage would be not eating correctly and too much cardio takes away a lot of my gains.

We know consistency is key, what tips would you give to anyone struggling to stay consistent?

To be consistent you have to develop a workout plan along with your meals. Make the plan realistic, and start small with your goals that are measurable, reward your self when you hit your marks.

Free weights vs machines what do you feel are the pros and cons of both and which do you prefer?

Free weights give your body the ability to stabilize with other muscles and you will ultimately get better gains. Machine weights will isolate and gives you a sense of safety. For instance if I’m doing drops set s to failure working out by myself I might feel better and safer doing it on a machine weight.

What are you most proud of?

Winning 2 model America championship, finishing 3rd out of 275 in the body fit body contest, winning the WBFF Eastern US championship and earning my WBFF pro card all in 6 month stretch. Also being the main character in the WMS casino game Aladdin & the magic quest that will be released spring of 2012.

How long do you usually spend in the gym?

1 hr and 15 minutes

What types of cardio do you do?

Stair climber, plyometric’s, runs outside

What rep ranges do you prefer and why?

I like to stay 10 to 12 reps with short rest/recovery. I feel the best pump and hardness through out the workout and post workout.

What is your training routine like?

5 days of weight Training 2 days of which I will add 20 minutes of cardio. When I have days of longer rest periods for workout I usually double set to keep my heart rate up.

What is your diet when trying to get in peak condition?

Lots of veggies and a carb taper towards the end of the night. High lean proteins and all foods that are low in sodium.

Do you bulk and cut or stay lean year round?

I stay in 6 to 7 percent range all year round when I have an event or modeling job I will cut up.
How do you deal with cravings for junk foods, sweets and salty food?
Anytime I crave something I have things on the ready such as natural foots banana or almonds and raisins to get me through to my real meal. If I’m absolutely going crazy I will eat the so called taboo foods and get back onto my meal plan.

What do you think about when you have to
dig deep and push out that last rep?

I think about all the critics all the people that got in my way or anyone that has troubled me through out my life and Walla I’m ready for that rep.

Who are your favorite athletes, bodybuilders
or fitness models?

I have pretty much met all the fitness models and there a lot of greats but athletes I would have to say magic Johnson. Simply because not only was he great he made everyone around him better.

What are your future goals?

Continue fitness modeling, continue to develop my business.
