I was always the chubby lazy kid at school, in my teens never did any sports and just ate all the junk food you can imagine (my fav was deep fried mars bars!!) I decided to make a change around the age of 19 but only started weight training seriously in my early twenties. Got into weight training when out in the city one day and saw a guy who had an incredible physique and went up to him and asked for advice.. and that you could say was the start to building the physique I have today!
All the mistakes every newbie makes! I only ate proteins no fat and little carbs, I took so much supplements that I didn’t need thinking that would help. Lifting with my ego, and only training body parts which I enjoyed for superficial reasons (chest and arms). It’s funny when I think about it now but I am a firm believer in learning from your mistakes and growing mentally and physiqually from them.
Honestly if you struggle to stay consistent then maybe you don’t want it hard enough! Nothing in life worth having comes easy!!! People always want quick results and quick fixes will always lead to disappointment! I always say think of building the physique you want as a marathon NOT a sprint, the one thing I always learnt even as I started out and sometimes seeing no results I stayed consistent as I had a goal and nothing was going to stop me achieving it.
I have various playlist depending on what body part I am training and also what mood am in for that day. So anything from -
I always tell myself that the last rep is what will separate the winners from the losers!! In my mind you will only grow if you can push through that burn and finish that last rep.
I always plan my meals a few days in advance and I love to cook so I always make sure I know what am having every day… My love for food has never gone away and I spend most of the day either eating or thinking about my next meal! Making sure that meals are planned is key and always having a variety makes this lifestyle even more enjoyable. However I do not have set schedules for meal throughout the day I eat when am hungry.
Training however is very spontaneous... I know what body part I am training but plan my session an hour before. Most times I never stick to my plan and honestly since I started training I rarely write down my sessions it’s all planned in my head.
My proudest moment will always be changing my lifestyle completely and having people whom I have never met sending me messages of how much of a motivation I am to them. It is still surreal to me, but I still have a lot to accomplish.
I bulk and cut, reason being I love food too much! Lol, I do a lean bulk off-season as I am trying to put on more size and sometimes the body needs a break from rigorous dieting, so for me trying to stay sub 10% year round would not be good for my body but that’s just how I feel. I do a cut if and when I have a show or photoshoot.
HIIT – I just love the buzz after an intense high intensity session, I do uphill sprints or use the spin bike. However I always add in some LISS cardio now and then especially after training.
I usually carb cycle when in peak condition and also making sure I am at a calorie deficit.
